Jan Michelle Pliler, HarpistA harp is a beautiful addition to a small gathering or curated event. The lovely music of a harp brings a touch of delicate sophistication, audibly and visually, and can positively impact the success of a gathering in many ways. I am an avocational harpist and have been a member of the Greater Seattle Chapter, American Harp Society since 2002, currently serving as the chapter president. I have provided background music, for business luncheons, art studio tours, holiday exhibits, funerals, religious functions, dinner events and hospice care. I ventured into the world of harp as an adult. I had a simple desire to bring the beautiful and soothing sound of this instrument into my life for pleasure, not for competitions or orchestral aspirations. I wanted to hear it, play it and feel the therapeutic effects of sound that if offers. As I began to acquire the skills from being a student of the harp, I found my stylistic preferences gravitated towards more delicate and simple musical arrangements. I began to solicit myself as a harpist for hire under "Simple Harp." My repertoire largely encompasses simple yet beautiful arrangements of meditative and light classical themes. This preference toward gentle music embraces a slower tempo and minimal flourishings that in turn releases the power of relaxation and inspiration. Harpist
